The Little House - Feels Like Home Again

Growing up, my mom took me to the local library weekly. I remember my little tote bag filled to the top with books spilling out. I cherished those afternoons when she would have reading time with me on the big comfy coach.

Pictured above is The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton, one of my favorite books when I was a kid. The little house lived on a hill in the country with the
city lights in the distance. Families moved in, grew and left the house, but it still stood on the hill with apple trees growing around it . The little house often wonders what the city is like. Over time, trains, roads, cars and big buildings become a part of the little house's life. The little house finds itself in the middle of a city! Feeling uncomfortable, the house is overcome with loneliness and sadness. The great-great-granddaughter of the builder finds the house and moves it back to the countryside where the house's hapiness was all along.

The illustrations by Virginia Lee Burton drew me in as a child, but now I can truly grasp the message of the story. Just like the little house, we're always wondering if the grass is greener on the other side. However, no matter where our dreams take us or how quickly the seasons change, we will always search out what makes us feel at home.

In college, I dreamed about working in an advertising agency. Programs like "Mad Men," glorified the industry, and I always thought how fascinating  it would be once I got there! But, just like the little house, I realized that the noisy world of advertising wasn't what I wanted for myself after all. I love the feeling of my designs being used for special events, like a baby shower or someone giving a set of stationery I created as a gift to someone they love. It feels so good to create for others and I adore every client I work with. I truly love having one-on-one interactions with my customers. So, I had to experience something, even though it was "I Never Want to Do This Again
"  in order to know what truly made me happy. Starting my stationery business felt like home again.

I'm so glad my journey has strengthen me along the way. I'm
exactly where I want to be in life.

My dreams took me back to where I belong…

  1. I'm still the little girl toting insane amounts of library books home these days. =)

I always find it interesting how we always want to become adults and work in these huge companies and once you get there, you realize sometimes bigger isn't better.

Great post and very true about life. =)
