Home Away From Home - Peaks Island, Maine

The salty breeze on my face, the ferry horn blasting as it leaves the harbor, luggage in my hands. When I think of summer, I think of Peaks Island in Maine. It's a beautiful island located in the Casco Bay that will always be anchored in my heart.

I've always been nostalgic about ferry rides. They bring me back when I was younger, and I went on my first ride to Nantucket Island. The ferry from Portland to Peaks Island is about a 10 minute ride, perfect for a day trip. If you're lucky, you will see a seal splashing in the harbor!

What I love about the island is finding cute little treasures in places that you wouldn't expect. There is a world famous umbrella cover museum (really!), kayak tours of the nearby islands, and this quaint little honey stand.

You can't visit Peaks without visting Brad's Bike Rental. We love biking the island with the beautiful Maine coast as a backdrop.

Around Dinner time, you can smell the delicious food at the Inn on Peaks Island. The seafood is delicious! It's definitely worth a stop! Afterwards, you can get ice cream at the little parlor across the street. My favorite is the Rocky Maine Coast sundae! The nice thing about these two places is that they are only steps away from the ferry!
This year we didn't make it up to Maine, because my first child, Benny, was born, but I found this adorable bracelet  by York Design company (part of our Francesca Joy Collection) to remind me that I will be back next summer!

What place is your home away from home during the summer?
